Cool & Composed

Cool & Composed is a self-produced radio show broadcast through the University of St. Thomas’ KUST Radio that seeks to highlight the often unappreciated contributions that film, television, and videogame soundtracks provide to their respective media types. Season 1

Season 1 dives into the big names behind film scores—the likes of industry staples like John Williams and Hans Zimmer—while also highlighting lesser-known (and debatably more innovative) artists like Heitor Pereira, composer of the criminally underrated Angry Birds Movie soundtrack.

Season 2

Season 2 examines some of the greatest indignities of the composing world—such as animated film composers like John Powell not getting nearly enough credit for what are possibly the most fantastical scores of all—as well as some of the industry’s greatest mysteries, such as the strange connection between the LEGO Indiana Jones videogame soundtracks and the brutal Japanese children’s show Popee the Performer.

Season 3

Though shorter than the previous seasons, Season 3 still manages to fit in some bangers, from a trek through Howard Shore’s sprawling The Lord of the Rings soundtrack to a look at the oft-disregarded world of mobile game scores to an in-depth examination of the sounds behind everyone’s favorite caped crusader.
